Default Monk PVE thru EotN

Hello just started playing my monk after a year and a half away from the game. I have always been a a necro demolishing everything with discordway heroes. Basically I was wondering what setup is safe to go through EotN HM and is also fun.

Do monks use discordway? I have most elites like roj and i remember trying out 2-3 heroes all using roj and a bip hero but do not remember how that worked out, also with all the updates and skill changes I am at a loss.

Appreciate the input

I guess you could still spam three PvE skills (YMLaD, Finish Him, Ebon Assassin) and Assassin's Promise with smite skills if you wish to keep an AP build for Discord. Either that or RoJ with Fragility.

You can move on to Spiritway.

You don't need gimmicks.

Hybrid healing burst build.

I think it's agreed that heroes perform a bit better with an offensive human player.

"Gimmicks" work. Feel free to post anything you have that works better for general hard mode.

if you're playing a monk, chances are you find healing/protting fun. The OP said he wanted fun. Therefore, I would suggest a healing burst or WoH hybrid (there are plenty of builds posted in the recent threads in the monk section of the campfire). If you dont find healing/protting fun... well monk isn't the class for you.

That's a good point, but for some people monking for heroes and henchman is different or painful. As a monk you're more likely to notice the H/H running around dumb doing dumb things unless you heavily micro them. Even if you manage them, they're still dumb.

I would not say that "offensive" in the form of damage dealing is necessary, but being free to command the troops long enough to ensure victory is definitely very helpful. Which heal/prot bars do just fine if you prepare/play adequately.

Moving on to your initial question: as Cuilan has said, AP Smite works just fine. I generally run that when I'm bored of being a healbot but too lazy to actually think. Since you are coming from a Necro I would advise you that the only real caveat is that Monk AP calling is quite a bit less flexible. RoJ works alright, altho' I have to be honest and say Smiting in general is rather unimpressive for a human player. Most of the "*ways" are designed to be run without your direct intervention, so whatever you feel a need to be generally works okay.

I mean, honestly, if you're willing to counter whatever stupid gimmick is present in whatever dungeon you're running, you can smash face with most reasonable builds (yes, as a Monk). Zealous Vow, Hundred Blades, Panic, Signet of Spirits, Word of Healing. Whatever floats your boat.

Use ROJ +smite and SOH on H/H untill u can make an AP caller. Monks suck at damage dealing which is why I have never played 1 untill this weekend (4yrs!) . Kept deleting them. Lwlz I suck.

Not sure I would say it's agreed. For a change of pace, sure it can be fun. I've run my monk as an SOS for some vanqs. Going through missions and quests I've gotten pretty good at using henchmen. Admittedly I'm the master some people are, but I'm good enough to work through many areas. I prefer to play my monk as a monk, heal/protting through. Occasionally I'll pull out the smite builds and blow the dust off them too.

If you have another build that can toss hexes/conditions around disco can be OK on a Monk. Spiritway is better to be honest.

As far as monk builds I use WoH or healing burst when I'm trying to win, whatever I want when I want to have fun.

Heros, same thing, I like Gwen and Master of whispers the most. I just use whatever for the other hero, MM, Orders if MMs are useless in a area, another monk If I feel its needed.

One thing I would suggest if your playing a heal / prot monk which I do all the time with H&H (oldschool) is to get a bit of selotape or something to jam down you ctrl button, if you dont constantly call things as a healer your heros and hench will just randomly target and act stupid in general. If your going to do this, turn off team chat to avoid the constant spamming of calling targets.

Normally use a modified spiritway setup for heros, if its a very rough area ill take a healer henchman, other than that I dont take any healing hench. It gets boring very fast as a monk if you have too many heals on team. Better to have too few than too many as it will keep you focused
